Uganda's most remote national park sits in the far northeast, bordering South Sudan and Kenya. Few tourists. Vast savanna. Wildlife you won't find anywhere else in Uganda. This is raw Africa.
Worth knowing: CNN and National Geographic have called Kidepo one of Africa's finest wilderness areas. The secret is slowly getting out.
Species found only here in Uganda:
Plus lions, elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and 475+ bird species.
Dramatic valleys surrounded by mountains. The Narus Valley is the wildlife hotspot — a year-round water source that draws animals from miles around. Dry season sunsets here are unreal.
Semi-nomadic pastoralists who've lived here for centuries. Cultural visits to their manyattas (homesteads) offer insight into one of Africa's most traditional communities. Authentic, not staged.
By road: 10-12 hours from Kampala. Long but doable in two days with stops.
By air: Charter flights to Apoka airstrip. 1.5 hours from Entebbe. Changes everything — this is how most visitors arrive.
Our recommendation: Fly in, drive out (or vice versa). See the country both ways.
| Park entry | $40/day |
| Charter flight (Entebbe) | ~$400-600/person |
| Cultural visit | $30-50 |
| Best lodges | Apoka Safari Lodge, Kidepo Savannah Lodge |
Dry season (Dec-March, June-Sept): Wildlife concentrates in Narus Valley. Best game viewing. Hot and dusty but spectacular.
Wet season: Greener landscapes, some wildlife disperses. Roads can be challenging but rarely impassable.
Day 1: Fly to Kidepo, afternoon game drive
Day 2: Full day game drives, Narus and Kidepo valleys
Day 3: Morning cultural visit, afternoon game drive
Day 4: Final game drive, fly out
Pro tip: Kidepo pairs well with Murchison Falls on a northern Uganda circuit. We can design the perfect route.
